UPDATE: Pets Survive Rural Northfield House Fire

Amber and Katy, the two dogs, and Halfmoon, the cat, were found, the Haslett-Marroquin family told friends. All five members of the family were unharmed in the blaze.

Thought to be lost in a fire that claimed a rural Northfield home on the eve of Thanksgiving, two dogs and a cat have been found.

Amber and Katy, the two dogs, and Halfmoon, the cat, were found, the Haslett-Marroquin family told friends. The dogs were found in the basement Friday morning. Halfmoon was found in a barn on the property. None were burned, though one of the dogs had an injured paw.

Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, his wife, Amy, and 8-year-old son, Lars, were home when the fire started but escaped unharmed. Two other children weren't home at the time of the fire.

Finding their pets is another small part the family can take solace in. The other shining moment started just hours after word spread of the fire.

In less than 12 hours after being displaced by the house fire, a Facebook group to help the family was created. More than 300 people—and growing—have joined the group.

Already in the works are plans for a bake sale, a benefit concert and a website to accept clothing and meal donations for the family, which includes three children who attend ARTech and Prairie Creek Community School.

The page has filled with words of sadness, thankfulness and shock.

"All of these people are alive, be thankful," one person wrote.

Northfield Fire Chief Gerry Franek didn't know the cause of the fire but a state fire marshal should determine that in the coming days.
