Six Northfield Gardens Open for Annual Tour

The Northfield Garden Club event pairs artists with gardeners.

"Flowers and Fine Arts" is the theme of this weekend's annual Northfield Garden Club garden tour. Six gardens, mostly on the east side of Northfield, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Each garden will also have an artist on-site displaying his or her works.

Gardens include an example of small-space gardening, a shade and water garden with a 40-foot cascade, and a new garden among others.

One of the must-see gardens belongs to Liv Hustvedt and her husband, Steve Remes, who garden on what may be the largest lawn in Northfield—five city lots at the intersection of Woodley and Prairie streets. Liv, who owns a company that produces garden art for mass-market retailers, took a break from caring for her plants to talk with Northfield Patch about what visitors might see at her garden, which she describes as a blend of Asian and English influences.
