Scene in Northfield: Third Annual Senior Open

On Tuesday, many artists were on hand for the reception for the third annual Senior Open at the Northfield Senior Center.

Walter See doesn't understand why anyone would pay money to own his "amateur" art.

Though far from a pro, he continues to paint. And paint. And paint.

On Tuesday, he was one of many artists on hand for the reception for the third annual Senior Open at the Northfield Senior Center. See's "Civil War Scene" was on display with other works of painting, pottery, photography, sculpture, wood carvings and weaving. The exhibit is open through Jan. 6.

With 2012 marking the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, See thought that work was a good choice for the exhibit. The scene, which he replicated from a famous piece, is for his grandson, Elliott. Elliott is named after a relative of See's who served in the Civil War.

See said he's creating a painting for each one of his 20 grandchildren, which means he'll be painting for some time to come.
