Scene in Northfield: In the Belly of the Whale

The inflatable, nearly life-sized whale can fit about 20 people inside of it.

Crawl in—it's OK.

Three students and about a dozen students part of the Stepping Up Into Science (SUITS) group built a nearly life-sized, inflatable whale.

On Thursday, the whale made its debut at Carleton's where, for about two hours, people of all ages took in the accomplishment as they crawled in and out of the whale and ate whale-themed snacks.

The whale has room for about 20 people inside. It took about eight weeks to create.

Adrienne Falcon, Carleton's director of Academic Civic Engagement who was involved with the project, says the hope is to inflate the whale several more times as a demonstration for younger children.
