Present Perfect in Downtown Northfield to Close, Coldwell Banker South Metro to Move In
Coldwell Banker South Metro will move into 419 Division St. on July 1.
After nearly 15 years as a shop owner, Mary Rossing has decided to "grow out of business."
Rossing says it's time for her to move on from Present Perfect, a downtown Northfield shopping destination that offers an eclectic mix of gifts, toys, kitchen gadgets and home goods. What that next step is, she said, is undecided.
Rossing, who is also mayor, made a formal announcement at Tuesday night's City Council work session.
"It's not because of hardship," she told the council. "I'm ready to do something else, though I don't know what that is."
She said she's kicking around a few business ideas, but isn't sure what direction she will go in.
Rossing, who owns the space that Present Perfect is in at 419 Division St., says she will lease the space to Coldwell Banker South Metro starting on July 1. Coldwell Banker is currently located on Hwy. 3 and was previously located in downtown a few doors down from where Present Perfect sits now.
Rossing said expects to shutter her business in about 45 days to allow Coldwell Banker time to setup for its opening.
Present Perfect has been in its current location since 2004. Rossing believes bringing Coldwell Banker into the location will help the downtown, which has seen a rebound in the past several months with the opening of The Measuring Cup and several other stores relocating to downtown storefronts.
Coldwell Banker touts 13 real estate agents who Rossing says will bring clients downtown to shop and eat.
"I actually think it will add a little more vitality to the block," she said.
Rossing said she's thankful for her loyal customers, partners and fellow business owners who helped make Present Perfect a success.
Councilor Rhonda Pownell said there will be a noticeable absence one Present Perfect closes.
"I know I certainly will miss your window creativity," she said.

This is the saddest news! PP is my favorite store downtown. If I can't find it there, I don't need it! I hope that in a housing slump, the new tenants will not be shuttering their business in a year.

I'm completely bummed out! This is one of my favorite downtown stores and definitely the go-to spot for unique gifts.
