PHOTOS: Flooding in Northfield

At Jefferson Parkway, Spring Creek rushed northward, filling drainage ponds in the area.

By 9 p.m. the waters of Spring Creek south of Jefferson Parkway were above the culvert and beginning to lap over the sidewalk.
The usually dry Spring Creek at the end of Southbridge Drive in the southeastern corner of town. The water in the video is probably eight feet at its deepest. The eventual result was the complete submergence of all the soccer fields (and most of the parking lot) along Jefferson and Maple .

UPDATED: 10:05 a.m. Friday

A flood warning is in effect for Rice County until 5:30 p.m.

According to the Carleton College Weather Database, just shy of 6 inches of rain fell in Northfield.

Streets in all corners of Northfield on Thursday were flooding after hours of rainfall dropped more than 5.5 inches of rain by 8 p.m.

At the time of this post, it was still raining with the National Weather Service predicting rain through early Friday morning. Several people on Facebook and Twitter said as much as 10 inches of rain fell in the rural areas around Northfield.

The bridge on Woodley Street East by Parmeadow Park was impassable Thursday night after water from the creek flooded the road. Greenvale Avenue on the city's west side was also flooded, as was Lockwood Drive. Highway 19 East by Carleton College's Lyman Lake also closed Thursday night after water spilled over the roadway.

The flooding didn't end with roads. Several parks and yards were flooded, as well as many houses throughout the area, according to emergency officials.
