I came back from Faribault this afternoon and was thinking about the recent accidents. I noticed how reflective the housing for that traffic signal was. I would think that there should be no reflective surfaces on a suspended traffic control device. Any reflectivity compromises the lights people are supposed to be able to see

That's a good point, Mark. And this happened as the sun was at a pretty severe angle. I guess we'll learn more once I hear back from Northfield Police.

Here are some comments from our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NorthfieldPatch):
Julie Collins: It would help if more people would stay off their cell phones, and pay attention to the other driver!!!
Christine Timonen: I do know the sun was starting to set . I was leaving Target and was at that intersection (for a long time) before NFLD police got there. The reflection of not being able to see the light was kinda hard. Obviously this is just my point of view.
Daryl Bauer: A round about would nearly eliminate crashes there.
Kathy Phillipsen: I got stuck in the backup trying to make a quick run to Cub. At least 3 cars were involved. That is a goofy intersection with the frontage road there, especially at rush hour. I've often thought they should close that off and require people to use Professional Drive to loop through. A lot of things could be avoided, as Julie said, if cell phones were used responsibly. I hope that wasn't the case tonight.
Sarah Moore: A roundabout? That makes as much sense as the median down Jefferson.
Keith E.O.: Homstad Roundabouts work! The Europeans figured that out long ago - after all how else could a Frenchman and a German EVER decide on who should go first at an intersection!?

I'm very disappointed in my fellow northfield citizens. It was my children in the car, how dare you not stop to help, how dare you risk the lives of other for your own gain. Right away people jump to blame the teens and phones...learn the facts people.

Interesting fact the person that was driving one of the cars doesn't even own a cell phone. If you knew the details id say you have a right to judge until then plz be respectful to both parties.
