Northfield Wins Swimming and Diving State Title
The Gators dominated en route to their second Class 1A state championship.
The Northfield Gators are state champions again.
The swimming and diving dominated the Class 1A meet Saturday at University of Minnesota Aquatic Center en route to a 223 point win. That was 48 points more than defending champion Sartell-St. Stephen.
Gators first-year head coach Deb Seitz told the MN Swimming Hub that she made a couple last-minute changes to the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.
"It was a little nerve-racking, and the girls don't like change so much," Seitz said with a laugh. "We wanted to bring a little more heat to our sprint relay—and they just brought it. They brought it."
It paid off as Northfield won the 200 freestyle relay.
“It’s like Christmas and your birthday all times 10,” sophomore Grete Baker told the Northfield News. “You just can’t stop smiling.”
The Gators finished second at state last year. Sophomore Bailey Dupay also scored her second-consecutive 1-meter diving championship.
