Northfield Public Schools is garnering a little recognition for getting back to its roots.

September is Minnesota's first Farm to School Month, as proclaimed by Gov. Mark Dayton.

The video also features farmer Rae Rusnak of Kenyon-based L&R Poultry & Produce, which last year started providing fresh vegetables to the Northfield district and other area schools.

The farm produces potatoes, onions, carrots, beets, rutabagas, radishes and turnips. Northfield students especially enjoyed the red potatoes, Rusnak says in a story on the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy Farm2School website.

“Kids loved the taste and teachers told us they couldn’t believe the taste difference,” said Rusnak.
