Tis the season of giving.

For the past three years, GiveMN.org has given everyday folks the opportunity to easily donate online to their favorite nonprofit groups, including hundreds of efforts in Northfield.

The best part?

Each year, a 24-hour period—known as Give to the Max Day, which starts at midnight Thursday, Nov. 15, this year—allows for everyone to flex their philanthropic muscle and offers hourly $1,000 bonuses for organizations receiving donations during that time. One $10,000 "golden ticket" bonus will be handed out as well. Also, through local donations, five Northfield-only golden tickets worth $1,000 will be handed out to area nonprofits.

Last year, 47,539 people donated roughly $13.6 million to 4,000 nonprofits statewide during the day.

GiveMN, itself a nonprofit, also handed out another $4,161,929 last year in incentives for groups that met benchmarks for individual donations and dollars raised. Many groups also receiving matching funding from other sources during Give to the Max Day—which only adds to the fundraising impact.

Northfield nonprofits want a piece of that.

Northfield Gives, a collaborative effort among 14 Northfield-area nonprofits, has worked to put together an awareness for the day.

The partners include: 

• Cannon River Watershed Partnership
• Community Action Center of Northfield
• Friends of Way Park
• Healthfinders Collaborative
• HOPE Center
• Northfield Area Family YMCA
• Northfield Area United Way
• Northfield Healthy Community Initiative
• Northfield Historical Society
• Northfield Union of Youth
• Prairie’s Edge Humane Society
• Rice County Habitat for Humanity
• Save the Northfield Depot
• Vintage Band Festival

Members of the above groups will be at many Northfield locations throughout Thursday to talk to residents about their efforts. Here are the locations and hours:

• Goodbye Blue Monday: 6-10 a.m.
• Quarterback Club: 6-10 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.
• Just Food Co-op: 4-7 p.m.
• Hogan Brothers Acoustic Café: 3-6 p.m.
• Northfield Historical Society: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
• Eagles Club: 5-7 p.m. (as part of the Prairie's Edge spay-getti dinner)

Here's how some other Northfield area nonprofits did last year:

• With nearly 3,100 donors, St. Olaf College raised $230,713.
• The Northfield Historical Society raised $2,425 and received another $1,000 in matching funds.
• The Cannon River Watershed Partnership raised $3,215.
• The Northfield Healthy Community Initiative raised $2,045 from 25 donors.
• Prairie's Edge Humane Society raised $5,905.
• The Rice County Habitat for Humanity raised $13,165 from 88 donors.
• Friends of the Northfield Public Library raised $4,000.
• Northfield Youth Choirs raised $1,875.
• The Northfield Senior Center raised $1,265.
• Carleton College raised $4,020 from 144 donors.
