Nobody was hurt in a fire that destroyed a rural Northfield home Wednesday night.

Northfield Fire & Rescue were called to the home, 4593 315th St. W., shortly before 11 p.m. to find it completely engulfed in flames, said Chief Gerry Franek. Embers from the fire were flying through the air and threatening nearby trees, power lines and the adjacent railroad tracks. Firefighters worked until the early hours of Thursday to completely extinguish the fire.

Franek said the owners, which property records indicate are Amy and Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, were home at the time of the fire and were the ones who called 911 after a smoke detector went off. The family was able to get out but pets were lost in the fire, Franek and a neighbor said.

"It's a sad story, but fortunately the owners got out," Franek said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

According to property records, the house had two bedrooms and one bathroom. It was built in 1977.

The 1.94-acre property also operates as Finca Marisol, a small poultry farm that produces eggs and meat, according to its website.

Northfield emergency officials were called to a house fire about a mile north of Northfield on 315th Street West.

Firefighters are still fighting the blaze. The house is fully engulfed with flames and the roof has given in. Dispatch received the call around 10:45 p.m.

There's no word if anyone was in the home when the fire started. Northfield Fire Chief Gerry Franek was not immediately available for comment.
