Freezing Rain, Sleet and Ice on Its Way to Northfield
A winter storm warning is in effect until midnight.
Northfield and southeast Minnesota are in a winter storm warning until midnight.
A wintry mix of freezing rain, snow and sleet are expected throughout the day. As much as 2 inches of snow and sleet could fall in Northfield with ice accumulating as well with temps reaching the lower 30s.

...WINTRY PRECIPITATION TODAY AND TONIGHT... .FREEZING RAIN WILL SPREAD INTO SOUTHERN MINNESOTA THIS MORNING...AND THEN LIFT NORTHEAST ACROSS EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN DURING THE LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS. THE FREEZING RAIN WILL LIKELY MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO SNOW DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN...MOST OF THE TWIN CITIES...AS WELL AS AREAS TO THE SOUTH OF THE TWIN CITIES...INCLUDING NEW ULM... FARIBAULT AND RED WING. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TENTH OF AN INCH APPEAR QUITE LIKELY WITH UP TO A QUARTER INCH OF ICE FROM ALBERT LEA TO RED WING. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN THE 2 TO 4 INCH RANGE ARE LIKELY AS WELL...WITH THE HIGH END AMOUNTS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN. THE WINTRY PRECIPITATION IS ASSOCIATED WITH AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVING NORTHEAST FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS.

MAIN IMPACT: ICE ACCUMULATION FROM A TENTH TO A QUARTER INCH FOLLOWED BY A SNOW ACCUMULATION AROUND 2 INCHES.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
