Organizations from area colleges to your local parks and recreation department offer dozens of camp choices for science, nature, sports, music and more.

Whether you're looking for an all-around experience or a more focused camp, this list features a few in your town and nearby.

St. Olaf Theater Camps

Acting: Explore everything from vocal expression to stage combat with others who love theater as much as you do. This process-driven camp is filled with classes, rehearsals and fun social activities. Campers will work with talented instructors as well as guest specialists in musical theater, acting and movement. No prior theater experience is required and Master Class option available for the advanced camper. Musical:This process driven camp will focus on how theater combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. Work with great instructors and guest professions to explore the basics of signing, projection, and character and story development. No prior experience needed. Technical: In this hands-on and lecture-based camp, students will explore the process of design and the creation and implementation of the technical elements of theater. Exploration of scenic lighting, video and sound, scenery and costume creation, stage management and production management, 3D and CAD software and software applications like Qlab and Isadora. No prior experience needed. Financial assistance available for qualified MN residents.

This week-long camp is filled with days of music making and instruction from internationally acclaimed St. Olaf music faculty. Band, choir and orchestra members prepare for concerts, try new musical venues such as musical theater, jazz, gospel, rhythm workshops, conducting, or handbells. Private lessons with St. Olaf faculty included. Fun recreational activities make this a complete camp experience. Financial assistance available for MN residents through the MN office of Higher Education, see camp website for details.

St. Olaf College Diving Coach Gabe Kortuem will improve all aspects of your diving using the techniques that elevated him to a winning college career and propelled his athletes onto multi-All-American performances. Pool time, dry-land training, dry board and trampoline practice, video and classroom sessions all aid in making this a comprehensive diving camp. Evening activities in cooperation with the St. Olaf College Swim Camp complete the residential camp experience.

The St. Olaf Summer Piano Academy offers serious piano students an opportunity to work closely with the St. Olaf piano faculty in private lessons, master classes, chamber ensembles and enrichment classes. Participation is open by audition to high school pianists. Academy faculty present daily master classes in which students participate and observe. Students have the opportunity to participate in piano ensembles and string chamber ensembles (in cooperation with Summer Music Camp), and perform in evening recitals. Fun recreational activities make this a complete camp experience. Financial assistance for MN students in need.

Northfield Area Family YMCA's Prairie & Wood Camp
Outdoor/environmental camp for children ages 5-12

Registration Deadline: Weekly fees are due one week in advance of camp
Cost: $88 per week for Y members, $95 per week for community members. A deposit of $20 per week at the time of sign-up will secure a spot.

Camp activities include exploring nearby prairie, woodland, boys, marshes, lake and river ecosystems; learning about rocks, trees and animals; and creating environmental art and crafts. This program is a 5-day, 1/2-day program. Register for one week or all four weeks. Each week is unique, educational and tons of fun.
