UPDATED: Highway 3 Reopens After Driver Dies at Wheel, Rolls Semi

The wreck happend just south of Menards in Dundas.

Highway 3 reopened Thursday afternoon after a semi driver reportedly died at the wheel and rolled his truck over, closing the road for nearly four hours.

The wreck happened about a mile south of  in Dundas. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the semi was traveling south when it veered across the road and drove into the east ditch, striking the field approach and power poles. The cab stayed upright, but the trailer tipped over.

Northfield Deputy Chief of Police Chuck Walerius said the driver had a medical issue—possibly a heart attack—causing his death. 

The truck was a 1999 Peterbuilt Conventional, according to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report. The MSP says the identity of the man who died will be released Friday morning.

Walerius said the truck was hauling sand.

The Minnesota State Patrol has taken the lead on the incident. The Rice County Sheriff's Office is assisting.

A semi driver reportedly died at the wheel then rolled his truck over on Highway 3.

The wreck happened a few miles south of  in Dundas. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Northfield Deputy Chief of Police Chuck Walerius said the driver had a medical issue—possibly a heart attack—causing his death. 

The truck was a 1999 Peterbuilt Conventional, according to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report. Other than that the driver was a man, information about the driver is not being released to the public at this time.

Walerius said the truck was hauling sand.

The highway is closed until further notice as law enforcement cleans up the scene and waits for the coroner.

The Minnesota State Patrol has taken the lead on the incident with the Rice County Sheriff's Office assisting.

South traffic is being diverted to Cannon City Boulevard.
