Youth, City Collaborate on New Recycling Bins
Youth members of Transition Northfield worked with City of Northfield staff, committee and elected officials to create and execute a project to redesign the permanent recycling bins in downtown Northfield.
Thanks to a collaborative effort, recycling in Northfield recently got a little bit easier.
Youth members of Transition Northfield worked with City of Northfield staff, committees and elected officials to create and execute a project to for permanent recycling bins in downtown Northfield.
The youth, who received guidance from Northfield Streets and Parks Supervisor TJ Heinricy and Public Works Director Joe Stapf, wanted to increase recycling throughout the downtown area.
In addition to meeting with officials and creating the plan, the youth got their hands dirty and helped in the creation of the bins, including welding them.

This project is a great collaboration that has saved the city money, involved youth, business owners (Howie Holt from Eco Gardens), city staff (Joe Stapf, TJ Heinricy) city boards (Environmental Quality Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Mayor's Streetscape Task Force) and more. There are more pictures over at Locally Grown, too: http://locallygrownnorthfield.org/post/27025/
Great job!
