Mabel Rose Vosejpka Cesafsky was born August 16, 1928, on the family farm at Lonsdale, Minnesota, to Frank and Rose (Barta) Vosejpka. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She attended country school, parochial school and for high school the University of Minnesota Agriculture School. Following her education she returned to the Lonsdale area and worked on the farm and as a waitress. While working in Montgomery she met her future husband, Joseph J. Cesafsky. They married on June 6, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After marriage Joe continued his military career. Over the years they lived in South Carolina, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Japan and Alaska. Following his retirement in 1973, they moved to Montgomery. In 1986, they moved to their home in Northfield. Although Mabel worked part time as a school cook, her heart was in her home. She was a terrific cook, baker, canner, seamstress, you name it, she could do it all, and she took great pride in being at home. Mabel was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Northfield VFW Auxiliary and Northfield Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, her flower garden, and taking care of her family.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years Joseph; 2 children: Janice and husband Mike Schauwecker of Arlington, Texas, Robert and wife Maureen of Minneapolis; 5 grandchildren: Jessica and Natalie Schauwecker, Sarah (Jimmy) Layer, Laura Cesafsky, Josh (Molly) Krueger; one great-granddaughter, Ramsey; 2 brothers: Robert (Diane) Vosejpka of Owatonna, Milton Vosejpka of Faribault; her sisters-in-law: Lillian (Bernard) Tupy of Northfield, Mary Harrison of St. Paul, Lorraine (Bob) Barr of Waseca, Joanie (Ronnie) Scheffler of New Prague, Connie Bartyzal of New Prague; one brother-in-law, Dennis (Sandy) Cesafsky of Montgomery; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ben Vosejpka, her brother-in-law, Ronnie Cesafsky; and her sisters-in-law: Alice Shetinski, Pat Jamieson and Jeannie Morken.
Mabel passed away with her husband and family by her side on Sunday evening, January 13, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 84.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Music will be provided by Marlys Mouser. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral.
